The Wallaby

To get these photos of this very timid Wallaby I had to carefully, and slowly walk in the river, waist deep for about 30 meters. I never made eye contact with him, so keep my eye on him looking throught the camera. I got within about 4 - 5 meters of him eventually.

The black-striped wallaby (Macropus dorsalis) is listed as ENDANGERED on the schedules of the NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act. The species was listed because:

* Its population and distribution have been reduced to a critical level
* It faces severe threatening processes
* It is an ecological specialist (it depends on particular types of diet or habitat)
* It has poor recovery potential
